Our Facilities

Our early learning centre is divided into four areas which reflect the interests, abilities and stages of the children who occupy them.  Equipment, activities and interactions invite participation and facilitate meaningful experiences.  Each room is given a title which refers to the name of a native bird purposely reflecting the characteristics of the children within the room.

The centre’s open plan design provides flexibility for the children to mix and mingle, with many opportunities for siblings to pop in and spend time together.  Close connections between the rooms facilitate meaningful relationships between all centre members (staff, children and their whänau) which, in turn, promotes the transition between each room as a natural progression.

Each room has its own outdoor play space, landscaped to incorporate features of the natural world, setting the stage for open-ended and multi-sensory learning opportunities.  Educators at Ready Steady Play place great value on this approach to children’s learning as it inspires problem solving, imagination and creativity, evoking the true spirit of the child.

Excursions

At Ready Steady Play we are fortunate to have safe and easy access to Clare Park, providing many opportunities to explore the local community and what it has to offer.

Frequent planned and spontaneous excursions include walks along the nearby lane to the horse paddocks, observing pukeko and feeding the ducks on the way, visits to the Travis Wetlands, local playgrounds and Waitäkiri School.

There are multiple opportunities to observe the goings on in the neighbourhood – transportation on the motorway, lawnmowers in the park, sports teams, school sports and neighbours exercising themselves and their dogs.

The park provides a natural extension to our preschool playground where we enjoy picnics under the shade of the trees, roll down the hill, play games and enjoy the thrill of the wide open spaces.

Documentation of your Child’s Learning Journey

At Ready Steady Play, each child has their own profile folder which contains documentation in the form of learning stories; a narrative form of recording a child’s learning journey.  Each story is expanded through a comprehensive assessment which links to the five strands of Te Whäriki (Early Childhood Curriculum of Aotearoa).

Learning stories and assessments make the learning visible and reflect educator’s deep knowledge and understanding of your child’s disposition, along with their strengths, interests and challenges.  As your child’s learning journey progresses you will be able to make clear links through the sequenced learning outcomes which are a formal part of these assessments.  Educators promote a collaborative approach as stories are shared with whänau and they, in turn, are asked to respond to stories, give written feedback and add to their child’s profile folder.

At Ready Steady Play we place value on a comprehensive assessment format which provides a clear link and sense of continuity between the principles and strands of Te Whäriki and the values and key competencies of the New Zealand Curriculum (for schools).

Portfolios & Storypark

We use an awesome app called Storypark, which allows whānau to follow their child’s early learning journey and to ensure you don’t miss out on important centre communications.

Photos, videos and audio capture your child’s learning so you never miss a treasured moment again. You and your family can also feel more engaged in your child’s development, and you decide who you would like to invite to experience your childs learning journey with you. A perfect way to share those special moments with loved ones down the line or overseas.

Although we love to use Storypark as an online platform to communicate with parents, we also use paper portfolios for each child.

Children enjoy finding their paper portfolio and reflecting on their past activities at the centre. It is a fantastic way for children to engage in self-recognition and reflect on their personal development, as well as being a treasured keepsake for their 21st Birthday!
